Negligence lawsuit arises from singer's fatal plane crash

Many Alaskans realize that regular maintenance and excellent upkeep are important when it comes to private small planes. Often times the only means of transportation to many remote places in Alaska is by plane. Would most Alaskans risk their lives by getting into a plane that was considered an "aerial clunker?"

Why then would singer/songwriter Jenni Rivera when she could probably afford to pay for the best and safest of private aircraft? That is precisely the question being asked by attorneys and relatives of four of the passengers killed in the recent plane crash that took the celebrity's life along with all the Learjet 25's passengers.

The Learjet 25 is a high speed business jet which can hold up to 10 passengers. In total, there were seven killed in the aviation accident, including the pilots. Authorities have yet to determine what caused the crash, but that has not stopped the deceased's relatives from bringing the negligence lawsuit.

The lawsuit claims that Rivera was negligent in hiring the faulty jet and that she should have known what kind of state the aircraft was in and the qualifications of the pilots. It has since been discovered that the pilot and co-pilot did not have adequate training for flying the jet.

The lawsuit also claims that the three companies who own or have once owned the aircraft should have known that the aircraft was likely to cause injury and/or death to those using it. There are also roughly 100 other unidentified people that the lawsuit alleges were negligent in the plane's "design, testing, maintenance, repairs, and checks."

In Alaska, it is understood that certain risks come with flying the mountainous ranges and coastal landscape. Hopefully, those risks have been adequately mitigated through thorough inspection, maintenance, and pilot training. If they were not and you find yourself or a relative the victim of an aviation accident, please contact a personal injury attorney practiced in that area of law. An attorney will be able to help you assess the legal options available to you and your situation.
