Massive Anchorage pileup ensnares nine vehicles

It may be a bit more uncommon, but a pileup car accident can be quite complicated. There are a lot of issues to sort out. Who caused the wreck? Was anyone negligent in the crash? What about insurance issues, and sorting out which driver is compensated for what?

These are just a few of the myriad elements that play a role during a pileup accident -- and for many Anchorage residents involved in just such an accident, they will want some answers to these questions.

The wreck we are talking about occurred a few days ago on Glenn Highway. When it was finally over, the massive crash involved nine vehicles. It is unknown how many people were hurt in the crash, or the severity of the injuries. Officials will be investigating the matter over the next few weeks and will come back with an ultimate conclusion on how the wreck started (which, at present, is also unknown).

There are a couple of important elements to learn from this accident. The first is that the investigation into a car accident, as rudimentary as it may seem, is very important. Accident victims will want to wait for the investigation to be complete, so that they can use the results in a civil lawsuit filed against the at-fault driver.

The other thing to remember is that "proximate cause" can be cited in a civil lawsuit. Proximate cause dictates that one person's actions caused another event to happen. In other words, if three cars are involved in a crash, with one car bumping a second car which, in turn, hits a third car, then the first car can be faulted for proximately causing the entire chain of accidents.
