Alaska woman killed in car accident, texting possible cause

With the prevalence of technology in today's society and the want of many people to stay in constant contact with friends and family, it is not uncommon to see a cell phone in someone's hand. Cell phones are multipurpose tools that allow people in Alaska and all over the world to make calls, check social media, and send text messages. However, one place a cell phone should never be used to text is behind the wheel of a vehicle. Texting and other distractions can lead to a car accident with serious consequences.

An Alaska woman was killed in a car accident after the vehicle she was riding in was struck by someone reportedly texting and driving while impaired. The impaired and distracted driver allegedly ran a red light and hit the side of the vehicle in which the woman was riding. The victim suffered fatal injuries, and while three other people were also in the vehicle, the conditions of those passengers were not reported.

The driver deemed to be at fault is facing numerous allegations, including assault and manslaughter. Authorities claim the driver was under the influence of drugs and did not have a valid driver's license. The driver denies texting during the accident, and police will continue to investigate the incident to determine the causes and sequence of events leading to the crash.

The woman killed in the car accident reportedly had two children. They and the other members of her family will have to struggle with the loss of their loved one. Arranging a funeral can be not only heartbreaking but also an expensive endeavor. The family retains the right to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver for damages permitted under Alaska law.
