Cruise passenger killed, 5 injured in Alaska plane crash

A steady stream of tourists venture into the Alaska on cruises every year. It's not uncommon for families to delve into the wilderness in chartered planes. Although these flights happen regularly, they aren't without danger. A group of six sightseers discovered these dangers in the most unfortunate way possible.

According to federal transportation safety officials, a small floatplane went down in a remote part of the state carrying a pilot and six passengers. As a result of the aviation accident, everyone in the airplane was injured. Among the six passengers, however, one sustained fatal injuries.

The five other passengers, who were all from the same family, sustained a variety of injuries, including broken bones and a broken back. Although the back injury is very serious, they are all expected to survive.

Officials from the cruise company that organized the flight responded to the incident by expressing condolences and concern, yet they have offered no indication as to what caused the accident. Since few answers have been uncovered, the National Transportation Safety Board is launching an investigation into the accident.

The plane's owners were likely responsible for maintenance of the plane. If it's found that they failed to conduct routine inspections or make crucial repairs, then they could be found negligent in a personal injury or wrongful death suit. At the same time, the pilot could share in the responsibility if it's found that he acted without caution. Hopefully, the NTSB inquiry reveals some answers, which could help the victims' loved ones with the healing process.
