Anchorage motorcyclist injured in car accident

An Anchorage motorcyclist collided with a motor vehicle and sustained injuries, requiring him to be transported to a local hospital. While the rider was wearing a helmet at the time, these types of accidents frequently cause injuries, as well as property damage. The driver of the vehicle, an out-of-state resident, was wearing his seat belt at the time of the car accident. He and his passenger were not injured.

Alaska State Troopers were called to the scene near mile marker 106.5 on Seward Highway in Anchorage. According to the troopers' investigation, the driver of the Suzuki Grand Viatara was traveling southbound and slowed behind a car turning left off of the highway. The 73-year old motorcyclist apparently could not stop and rear-ended the Suzuki. The rider of the BMW motorcycle was thrown from his vehicle.

Both the motorcycle and the vehicle were towed from the scene with heavy damage. The motorcycle was classified as a total loss. The Suzuki incurred approximately $5,000 worth of damages.

The injuries to the rider were not life-threatening,and the occupants of the car were not injured. Medical bills, property damage, and even lost wages can put a strain on a family's finances. Fortunately, after careful investigation by authorities, compensation may be available for individuals injured in a car accident by the negligent actions of others. While it remains to be seen if that will be appropriate in this case, Alaska does have many professionals who can assist victims of motorcycle and car accidents with advice and support in their search for answers.
