Most incidents that involve a pedestrian and a motor vehicle are an accident, but when the driver of the vehicle intentionally targets the pedestrian, the victim can receive severe injuries in the collision. The lack of protection that pedestrians have when struck by a motor vehicle can seriously increase the severity of any injuries, and makes them an even easier target for an individual who wants to cause bodily harm. One woman in Alaska is being charged for allegedly causing a pedestrian accident on purpose.
The collision took place on Aug. 27 and involved two pedestrians and an ATV. Police stated that they believe the pedestrian and the rider were arguing before the accident took place. They say that the rider then stated that she was going to hit the pedestrian and did so as the woman was pushing her baby in a stroller before pulling off.
The two victims were taken to the hospital soon after the accident took place for injuries that were said to be non life-threatening. The current condition of the woman or her baby is not known. Alaska police promptly found the rider and arrested her after the accident.
Since the pedestrian accident is thought to have been intentional, the injured victims have every right to seek monetary compensation for their injuries. An event of this nature could cause the victims to suffer ongoing emotional pain along with their physical injuries and could impact their daily routine. Compensation could be used to both pay for hospital bills and supplement the mother's income if she is unable to work. A civil lawsuit for personal injuries must be based upon proof of negligent and/or reckless conduct that is deemed to have caused the accident and resulted in serious injuries.
