Alaska auto accident seriously injures man in Nome

Cranes and other heavy machinery are vital in our ever expanding society, but when these machines malfunction, it can quickly create horrendous situations. These incidents can endanger any individual in the area surrounding the machine and have the possibility of causing severe injuries to victims. Unfortunately, a man in Alaska was recently hurt in an auto accident that involved a vehicle and a falling crane.

The accident took place on Sept. 28 and involved a commercial truck and a piece of a crane. Police stated that the victim was driving a gravel truck at his work site when the crane piece struck his vehicle. An eyewitness stated that the piece of crane fell onto the cab of the truck and crushed the roof, down almost to the driver's seat.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene of the accident and transported the 25-year-old victim to the hospital. The victim was said to have a crushed spine, but his current condition is unknown. The accident is still under investigation by Alaska police.

Once the investigation of the auto accident has been completed, the injured victim may have the right to seek monetary compensation. Due to the extensiveness of the victim's injuries he will likely be unable to work for an extended period of time. As he was apparently working at the time of the accident, he is likely entitled to workers' compensation benefits through his employer. He may also have the right to file a separate personal injury claim against a third party -- such as the crane manufacturer or other party whose negligence is deemed to have contributed to or directly caused the accident and serious injuries that resulted.
