Fatal pedestrian accident in Alaska city shuts down roadways

It is not unusual for the first reports of a fatal pedestrian accident to give very little information to the public. After all, the Alaska authorities have to piece together the events that occurred in the moments leading up to the incident, as well as those that took place directly after the event. They also feel a responsibility, in many cases, to protect the identity of the victim of the fatal pedestrian accident until his or her family has been notified.

A recent fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in Anchorage has followed this path. The crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian took place on a late March afternoon. In order to clear the scene and carry out a thorough investigation, local police closed down all the lanes at the intersection of two roads for more than two hours.

At the time of the latest report, the only detail released by the authorities was that the pedestrian had been killed. The victim's body was taken by a medical examiner to determine the specific cause of death. No word has been given on the type of vehicle that allegedly hit the pedestrian, nor was any mention made of whether the driver was immediately cited or charged.

After the Alaska pedestrian's family has been notified, more details may be forthcoming. Whether this is the case or not, the victim's family members may wish to start the process of suing the driver of the vehicle that reportedly hit their loved one. This type of lawsuit is independent of any criminal charges that might be leveled against the party deemed at fault, and any restitution awarded to the victim's family could be used for expenses stemming from the fatal pedestrian accident, such as funeral and burial expenses.
