Alaska woman is seriously injured in early morning car accident

An early morning car accident has left an Alaska woman seriously injured. The 34-year-old woman was a passenger in the only car involved in the incident. Police say the car accident was the result of the driver falling asleep at the wheel.

After the 21-year-old male driver allegedly fell asleep, the car crossed several lanes of traffic and went off the road, finally rolling several times before stopping. While he was wearing a seat belt, his female passenger was not. A report on the incident did not say she had been thrown from the car, but the injuries she received were severe enough that she had to be airlifted to a major medical center for care. No word on her condition after treatment was given.

The driver's condition at the scene did not seem to be as severe and he was taken to a local hospital. He was treated and released, as his injuries were confirmed to be minor. When police learned he did not have a valid driver's license, they charged him with driving without a license as well as negligent driving.

While the report did not indicate future civil legal action by the woman or her family, it is possible that they may feel the need to pursue such because of the alleged negligent actions of the driver. If this car accident results in permanent incapacitation or the need for long-term medical care, the woman or her family could seek financial compensation to cover extensive medical bills as well as for the mental anguish she may endure. Those in Alaska facing similar circumstances might benefit from legal guidance.
