Alaska man dies in 2-vehicle car accident

A late evening car accident has resulted in the death of a 73-year-old Alaska man. Police officers, as well as rescue personnel from the fire department, were called to the scene of the two-vehicle car accident. Police do not think alcohol was an issue in this incident and will include their investigative findings in a report to the district attorney's office.

The man, driving his sedan, was attempting to make a turn onto a highway when a pickup truck ran a red light and hit the sedan. He was taken to a local hospital and died after his arrival. A woman was driving the truck and had a minor child with her. Neither suffered any injuries in the crash.

At the time of this report on the incident, charges had not yet been issued to the truck driver. In compiling the official report, police will take note of the accounts of eyewitnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident. Should authorities find her to be at fault, the family of the deceased man could have reason to file a wrongful death lawsuit against her.

The proven negligence of another person that results in any death, whether intentional or not, is the basis of filing a wrongful death suit by a family member of the deceased. Death resulting from a car accident due to recklessness or negligence is just one example of possible wrongful death. The laws vary by state, so an Alaska resident who is considering this type of legal action may benefit from professional advice as he or she seeks compensation for a variety of expenses associated with losing a loved one.
