Alaska police still investigating car accident involving minor

An Alaska teenager was recently suspected of causing a two-vehicle car accident. The 17-year-old male was injured in the accident and was taken to a local hospital to be treated. He was released as soon as doctors cleared him. A report stated officials are still looking into the car accident, but it did not give an indication of any charges being issued at this time.

Police responding to the scene of the accident determined that the teen veered into oncoming traffic after losing control of the sedan he was driving. They say he then hit head-on a vehicle traveling toward him. Both vehicles were damaged beyond repair as a result of the collision.

There were four passengers in the teen's car, and all four suffered injuries from the crash. Three were transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. The fourth passenger was taken to a hospital in Anchorage, suffering from critical injuries.  No one in the other car was injured.

As the investigation into this car accident continues, the boy could find himself having to answer civil claims for financial relief from the passengers in his car. The teen, as well as any separate owner of the vehicle he was operating, could be sued for personal injuries suffered by the crash victims. If his actions are found to have been the cause of the collision, a civil court in Alaska may direct the entry of a monetary judgment in favor of an accident victim, based upon documentation of specific items of financial damage.
