Anchorage man killed in auto accident involving tour bus

An investigation is ongoing after an Anchorage man was killed in an auto accident. The wife and daughter of the 55-year-old man were also injured in the bus versus auto accident but are expected to fully recover. The afternoon crash involved five vehicles and a tour bus.

State troopers say a car was hit from behind by the tour bus when the car stopped for other vehicles turning to enter a wildlife center. Four other vehicles traveling on the Seward Highway, including two with attached trailers, also became entangled in the wreckage. A report on the Anchorage crash did not specify in which vehicle the deceased and his family were riding.

Emergency personnel responded quickly in transporting those who were injured to medical facilities. Those who suffered more serious injuries were airlifted by helicopters, and other victims were taken by ambulance. The total number of people who were injured was not given, though the bus apparently contained 42 passengers.

If the investigation concludes that the bus driver is at fault for the auto accident, he and the tour bus company for which he works could be the targets of civil lawsuits from those who were injured, including the family of the man who was killed. The victims could seek an award of monetary damages to cover the costs from medical bills, wages lost if work was missed due to their injuries and other financial losses. Those in Alaska who may be considering filing a personal injury lawsuit due to similar circumstances will want to find an experienced personal injury attorney to help them assess their rights and protect their interests.
