3 dead, 5 injured in Alaska plane crash

Three people were killed and five others injured in a recent plane crash that occurred near a small village. The National Transportation Safety Board, assisted by Alaska State Troopers, will investigate the details of the plane crash. All 10 people aboard the plane, including the pilot, were from out of state.

The floatplane was transporting the tourists to a particular destination for a fishing excursion. It never cleared a copse of trees during takeoff and was found near a lake not too far from where it took off. People from the village helped rescue personnel as they carried several of the survivors from the area of the wreckage on stretchers. Those survivors were airlifted to a medical center in Anchorage to be treated.

Rainbow King Lodge owned and operated the plane, a DeHavilland DHC-3T Turbine Otter. A spokesperson for the NTSB said the investigators will be getting in touch with the manufacturer of the plane's frame, Viking, as well as Lodge officials. They will also be establishing the weather and lake conditions during the time of the crash in the course of their investigation.

Any number of things could have gone wrong to make the plane crash in that area of Alaska. However, should the investigation show the fault to lie with a person or a company, the families of the deceased victims and those that were seriously hurt have the right to pursue claims for financial compensation from those deemed negligent in a manner that caused or led to the fatal crash. It will be necessary to establish negligence by appropriate proof, such as evidence of pilot error or an equipment malfunction.
