NTSB report reveals pilot error to blame for Alaska plane crash

Blame has been placed on the pilot of a commercial aircraft after a plane crash at an Alaska airport two years ago. The National Transportation Safety Board recently released its report, concluding that the first officer raised the landing gear after the plane touched down on the runway. Two members of the crew and 13 passengers were all able to walk away from the plane crash.

According to the NTSB report, the landing gear failed and the plane slid on its underside until it was able to stop, causing extensive damage to several parts of the plane. One of the passengers described the motion of the plane as being comparable to riding with a drunk driver. No complications were found with the landing gear or the accompanying safety switch when inspected by investigators, but the report did not clarify how the landing gear was raised by the first officer without the safety switch engaging automatically.

Even though the report stated none of the 15 aboard the plane was injured, three of the passengers claim they were hurt due to the crash. They have filed lawsuits against the airline as well as the two parent companies. One claim alleges that the airline did not employ crew members who were adequately trained on how to land a plane.

If a civil court in Alaska finds that the injuries the three passengers claim to have suffered were caused by the plane crash, they may be awarded a judgment for monetary damages. This could help them achieve financial relief for the physical and emotional damages sustained. Those individuals injured under similar circumstances may benefit from the advice and assistance of a personal injury attorney experienced in handling airplane accident cases.
