Family in Alaska mourns loss of teenager in pedestrian accident

An investigation remains ongoing in a recent tragedy that occurred in Alaska. Sadly, as a result of the incident, a family is now mourning the loss of their loved one. The pedestrian accident occurred at approximately 3 p.m. on a recent Monday.

The victim in the tragic accident was a 15-year-old boy. He was apparently walking along-side a road when a vehicle heading in a southbound direction hit him. Alaska troopers reportedly received a call reporting the accident and informing them that someone was performing CPR on the fallen teenager.

Sadly, the boy did not survive his injuries. His family members were notified of his death at the scene. The public was advised to avoid the area while preliminary investigations got underway. The boy's body was transported to the medical examiner's office so that an autopsy could be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

It is difficult to fathom the shock, grief and devastation that losing a young family member in a pedestrian accident causes a family. In Alaska, when an accident victim is a minor and the crash was deemed to have been caused by another person, a parent or legal guardian may seek justice on behalf of the decedent. To do so, a wrongful death claim can be filed in a civil court, seeking a monetary judgment against the party believed to have caused the death. Funeral expenses, medical bills from treatment provided before death and other costs can add to a family's struggle by causing unexpected financial debt; compensation awarded in a successful claim can provide some debt relief.
