Alaskan Girl Scouts want to prevent another pedestrian accident

Girls Scouts in Alaska have recently acted, along with their leader, to raise awareness in their city regarding what they claim is a very hazardous crosswalk in the area. They are hoping the city will respond to help protect the safety of pedestrians at a section of road that seems to pose serious risk to all travelers. One of the girls described a near pedestrian accident when she and her fellow troop members were crossing the road.

She said that a group of girls were using the appropriate crosswalk and were carrying neon flags that the Department of Transportation had placed in the area to help pedestrians make themselves more visible to motorists. Still, the scout said, an approaching vehicle almost hit them. The girls' troop leader stated that it seems to be a common occurrence at that intersection.

Another teenager was reportedly hit by a car in 2015 when he was crossing the same area of road with his bicycle. He suffered serious head trauma and had to be airlifted to an emergency medical facility. The Girl Scout troop has been gathering signatures and speaking out about the issue, hoping their efforts will lead to approval for installation of solar-powered crosswalk signs.

In the meantime, an Alaskan parent whose minor child has been injured in a pedestrian accident caused by driver negligence may file a legal claim in a civil court. A first logical step to take in the process is to arrange a consultation with an experienced personal injury attorney. From there, an assessment of the situation can be made and an investigation launched to identify all possible sources of liability and determine the maximum amount of compensation to which one may be entitled.
