Nursing negligence suspected in wrongful death situation

It is obvious that not all deaths occur naturally. Every day, in Alaska and elsewhere, many people suffer untimely deaths due some sort of negligence on the part of another person. A wrongful death may be connected to a car accident, a violent crime or, as alleged in a recent case, medical negligence in a nursing home.

The man who died was admitted to the nursing and rehabilitative facility in February 2014. It was reportedly noted at the time that he was at risk for bed sores. During the months that followed, records show that the man developed severe ulcers in his scrotum area, as well as his lower back and left hip.

At some point, the man's sores became seriously infected and he suffered sepsis, a life-threatening condition. Surgery was performed on the man, but, a short time later, he was transferred to a special facility, where he was diagnosed with MRSA infections. The man died in mid-November 2014. A special administrator to the man's estate has since filed a legal claim stating that his death was caused by negligent care on the part of nursing home's staff members.

Anyone in Alaska who has suffered the loss of a loved one in a similar situation may seek consultation with a personal injury attorney to discuss the issue. By filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court, compensation for damages may be sought. Though a monetary award from the court can never replace the loss of a loved one, it can help meet many expenses associated with a preventable death.
