Woman assisting Alaska motorist injured in pedestrian accident

Traveling by motor vehicle in Alaska and anywhere else in the United States involves a certain amount of risk. Unexpected situations often occur that lead to accidents. Sometimes, such collisions are unavoidable; others, such as those caused by careless drivers, could most likely have been prevented had those deemed at fault made more responsible choices. This appears to have been the case in a recent pedestrian accident in Willow.

State troopers have appealed to the public for help in locating a vehicle that is thought to have been involved in a recent collision that caused injury to a pedestrian. The woman who suffered injuries to her lower extremities had reportedly been assisting another motorist whose vehicle had broken down on the road. While the situation was being addressed, another vehicle approached at an apparently high speed and struck the woman.

The allegedly speeding car is also believed to have crashed into the disabled vehicle. Rather than stopping at the scene, the driver kept going. The injured woman was taken to an area medical center for treatment of her injuries.

Many similar past incidents in Alaska have ended tragically, with pedestrians or others being killed by speeding motorists. Once police have located a driver deemed responsible for an accident that caused injury, a recovering victim may pursue justice by filing a personal injury claim in a civil court. Witness testimony is often instrumental in obtaining positive results in such cases. Compensation awarded in successfully litigated claims can be used to help pay medical bills and cover other losses associated with a pedestrian accident.
