Injured pedestrian occurrences more likely near Halloween

Many neighborhood children in Alaska and throughout the United States recently celebrated the holiday of Halloween. A common tradition at this time of year involves children and their guardians traveling door-to-door to collect candy from homeowners or residents. The sudden influx of people traveling on foot highly increases the chances that there will be an injured pedestrian before festivities come to an end.

The American Automobile Association gave warning that pedestrian accidents may occur in greater numbers on Halloween night. One area in another state had issued a September report that there had already been more than 340 accidents involving pedestrians. With so many people walking on and near roadways during the Halloween season, it would not be surprising to see a rise in those numbers come November 2016.

Of course, all drivers accessing roadways where pedestrians may be in the vicinity are advised to drive extra cautiously to avoid collisions. Pedestrians themselves are better off wearing reflective clothing (especially, if walking at night) and paying close attention to their surroundings. Accidents that do occur often result in serious injuries or death.

When an injured pedestrian who was hit by a car in Alaska is a child of minor age, his/her parent or legal guardian may seek justice on the child's behalf. If a motorist is deemed negligent in the situation, a monetary judgment can be sought to hold the driver accountable. Families are often quite unprepared to face the exorbitant costs associated with medical bills or other accident-related expenses. A successfully litigated claim can provide compensation to help alleviate those costs.
