Confirming cause of car crash is crucial

Imagine you are driving down the road when suddenly, the door flies off the hinges of the car in front of you. The door smashes into your windshield and you crash your car after trying to swerve out of the way.

The other driver and his or her insurance company might call an incident like this a fluke, or something that could never have been prevented. While this might be true in some cases, it isn't always the case. Just ask the manufacturers of Nissan Altimas.

According to recent reports, mistakes were made in the assembly of various models of Altimas that made it possible for doors to open if a person rolls down a rear window. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration specifies that the latch and lock cables in multiple cars were incorrectly routed, meaning the door opens when someone presses the button to roll down the window.

At first, Nissan failed to identify the problem. However, after more and more incidents occurred, the defect was eventually isolated and a recall was issued.

So far, this defect has not caused any accidents or serious injuries. However, this is just one example of what can go wrong when cars are not assembled properly.

This should also serve as a reminder that the cause of a car accident it is not always immediately clear. Yes, it may stem from a fluke incident or unsafe operation, but it could also be linked to a design or manufacturing defect lurking in a vehicle.

In order to confirm the cause of a crash and hold the appropriate party liable for car accident damages, it can be a good idea to talk to an attorney before making any conclusions or agreeing to a settlement. Failure to do so could prove to be quite a costly mistake, especially if the liable party turns out to be a car company and not an individual.
