Visiting Alaska? Beware of these 5 common tourist injuries

Going on a trip to Alaska is a fun and exciting experience. There is nothing quite like the beautiful sights you see and wonderful people you meet here. Unfortunately, traveling is not always a cakewalk.

Whether it is a sprain or a life-threatening injury, tourist accidents can put a significant damper on your travels. Here are some potential ways you may suffer an injury during your visit to Alaska

1. Motor vehicle accidents

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, road traffic accidents are the most common type of traveling injuries. If you ride a bus or rent a car while here, it is possible that you will get in a wreck. You may also get hit by a motor vehicle if you are cycling or walking around Alaska. These accidents are common if you are a tourist and unfamiliar with your surroundings.

2. Slipping or tripping

The chances of slipping or tripping on your vacation are high. Sometimes you are in a hurry on your trip and other times there may be an obstructed or slippery surface you do not see. Depending on the nature of your fall and where it happens, you may be able to sue the property owner for your injury.

3. Aviation accidents

One of the best ways to take in the beautiful landscapes of Alaska is going on a flightseeing tour. Whether you take a helicopter or small plane, you may be at risk of getting in an air tour accident. Pilot error, aircraft malfunctions and weather may all cause aviation injuries.

4. Rafting accidents

You may want to venture out into the rivers while visiting Alaska. However, rafting tours can be dangerous and treacherous. You are especially at risk of getting bruises, fractures, sprains and strains while rafting.

5. Mugging, theft and violence

Criminals may prey on you as an unsuspecting tourist. If someone mugs you, you may suffer injuries and monetary losses. If this occurs in a hotel, you may be able to sue the hotel for insufficient security.
