Driving your home away from home in Alaska is beneficial as you don’t have to worry about staying in a hotel. All you have to do is find a campground or an open area to park your RV. However, while you’re on the road, there are a few common types of accidents to keep in mind.
Speed
Since an RV is a larger vehicle, it can take more time to get stopped when you’re on the road. This means that you should try to keep your speed at the posted limit and sometimes a bit slower if the road conditions are dangerous or if there’s heavy traffic.
Sleep
Even though there are beds in your RV, it might not mean that you get enough sleep when you stop. This could be due to too much noise at the location where you stop or because you can’t get comfortable enough on the bed or the couch in your vehicle. If possible, try to get a few hours of sleep before getting on the road as fatigue is one of the most common causes of RV accidents that occur.
Wind
Strong winds can sometimes increase the risk of being in an accident due to the weight of the vehicle. Consider looking for an RV that is made of materials that are sturdy and that aren’t as lightweight as some of the modern ones on the market to decrease the risk of this type of accident.
Turns
A common cause of RV accidents is miscalculating your turns. Since you’re in a larger vehicle, you’re going to need to make wider turns. If you don’t plan them well, then it could result in hitting other vehicles or objects and could result in flipping the RV over.
Before getting on the road in your RV, take some time to examine your vehicle and prepare for possible accidents that could occur.
